Scope and Contents

White Hair Intonation 白头吟(旦) Bai Tou Yin (Dan). Handwritten Cantonese opera manuscript.

White Hair Intonation is a song cycle that originated from the division in charge of official songs and dances for rites during the Han Dynasty. One possible author is Zhuo Wenjun, though this attribution has been contested. The song, written from the perspective of a lady, is about the frustration of losing one’s beloved and the challenge of finding the meaning of love.
