Scope and Contents

The materials in this sub-series include books, journals, and magazines owned by the Chins. The majority of the books are softcover and in Chinese; they cover such topics and subjects as folk opera, geomancy, fiction, medicine, calligraphy, and martial art. Many of the Chinese books are actually booklets, or thin soft-cover books with multiple copies. There are some books in English, including fiction, such as "A Tale of Two Cities," and English-language practice guides. The magazines include various copies of "Life Magazine," including one with an article about New York's Chinatown. This article includes a photograph of the Chins. Other magazines are journals from professional organizations, such as the Gee How Oak Tin Association, and the "Digest for Oversea Chinese."
