Scope and Contents

Dream of the Red Chamber [Burial of Flowers] 红楼梦[葬花] Hong Lou Meng [Zang Hua]. The story tells that one day, overcome by a spell of melancholy after bickering with Baoyu, Daiyu goes to bury some fallen petals at a hillside and falls in deep weeping at the demise of the flowers. This story comes from the novel Dream of the Red Chamber, which provides a detailed, episodic record of life in the two branches of the wealthy, aristocratic Jia clan—the Rongguo House and the Ningguo House —who reside in two large, adjacent family compounds in the capital. Lin Daiyu is one of the principal characters, whose love relationship with Jia Baoyu forms one of the main threads of the novel.
