Xue Ping Gui-Farewell at the Cavern 薛平贵-别窑 Xue Ping Gui-Bie Yao. The story tells the legend of Xue Pinggui and Wang Baochuan. Wang Yun was the Prime Minister of the Tang Dynasty. He had three daughters. The eldest one Jinchuan married the Minister of Labor Su Long; the second daughter Yinchuan married Wei Hu, the Deputy Minister of Military; but the spoiled little girl Baochuan decided to choose her husband at random. She stood on the furnished tall tower at a crossroad, threw a ball to the crowd. The man who was hit by the ball would be her husband. As a result, a peddler of flowers, namely Xue Pingggui turned out to be the lucky guy; but Wang Yun broke his promise because of the economic condition of Xue Pinggui. Wang Baochuan tried her best to persuade her father but failed. She gave her father three claps to show her determination to be with Xue Pinggui regardless of any cost, and then went to the slums with Xue Pinggui. Afterwards Xue Pinggui was promoted to take charge of a regiment of the troop for his contribution in the fight with the evil spirit. Wang Yun proposed Xue Pinggui for the pioneer of Army in the upcoming war with the west tribe. At war, Su Long was the general and Wei Hu acted as his assistant. Wei Hu and his father-in-law plotted against Xue Pinggui. They made excuses to decapitate Xue Pinggui many times but Su Long stopped them. Finally Xue Pinggui was lashed and forced to fight immediately. Xue fought the enemy to the death and won the battle by a clean weep. At the celebration ceremony Wei Hu got Xue Pinggui down, horsed Xue Pinggui and sent the unconscious man to the enemy camp. Surprisingly Xue Pinggui won the favor of the Princess Daizhan, married her and obtained higher social status through marriage there. 18 years later, one day Wang Baochuan’s old mother visited the slum personally, where Wang Baochuan has been living a hard life during the past years. Years of privation didn’t change her persistence. Hearing the news, Xue Pinggui stole the proof to deploy the army and returned home. At that time the empire of the Tang Dynasty passed away. Wang Yun staged a coup and commanded his troop to capture Xue Pinggui .With the aid from Princess Daizhan, Xue Pinggui beat the rebel and became the new empire; and Wang Baochuan became the empress subsequently.
