Oral History Interview with Wally Wong, 2000-10-13
Abstract
In this interview, Wally Wong speaks about his mother, brother and sister as role models for him growing up. He discusses organizing a non-profit organization in order to give money to charities. As an adult, he was able to work for a company and perform as a singer on the side during weekends. After his mother passed away, he began organizing events for the elderly. He reflects upon the roles that are offered to Chinese American performers in the United States and stereotypes of the industry. Additionally, he discusses Chinese American actors and non-traditional casting of roles. He then goes on to talk about growing up in California, and his personal life. He explains some of the difficulties of being an actor and elaborates on his relationship with the Forbidden City and the people connected to it. He reminisces about his own acting experiences and the lasting relationships he has had with other performers related to the Forbidden City.
