The collection consists of print editions of old issues of the International Examiner. The International Examiner is published in Seattle, WA. It is published biweekly and these issues are from March 1980 to June 1990. Founded in 1974, it serves the Asian American Communites of Seattle, specifically the International District of Seattle. Today it is the oldest and largest nonprofit pan-Asian American newspaper in the Pacific Northwest. As a publication, the IE endeavours to provide reliable and timely information about topics relevant to Asian Pacific Americans. The issues in this collection are from 1980-1990. Major concerns that formed the background for this time period were Reagan's policies and their consequences for immigrants, the nuclear arms race, legal proceedings for redress for the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII, Ferdinand Marcos' reign in the Philippines, and the aftermath of the Vietnam War.
